11:45am – 3:00pm Eastern Time

Presented virtually via Zoom Video Communications

Presented by
Vibh Forsythe Cox, PhD, DBT-LBC

COURSE DESCRIPTION

One important pathway to developing competence and expertise in the treatment is supervised practice. Because DBT is a principle-based treatment and the clients who seek DBT can look so different from one another, there are many factors to be considered in training and supervision. This presentation is designed to expand on the previous Learn and Earn by identifying strategies for addressing the core features of supervision and common problems faced by supervisors and supervisees. Dr. Cox will describe how to complete a Therapist Development Formulation and use tools like a Treatment Delivery Diary Card and Adherence Checklist to track the use of needed skills and strategies of the treatment and then evaluate the barriers to trainees implementing those skills and strategies as needed. This training aims to support thoughtful and data driven approaches to supervision to increase the likelihood that needed skills are developed in an efficient and generalizable manner as well as provide practical tools for enhancing DBT supervision.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. List 3 strategies for evaluating trainee needs
  2. List 3 reasons why behaviorally specific data collection is crucial to effective DBT supervision
  3. Identify strategies to address 2 common difficulties faced by those delivering training and supervision in DBT
