Jenny received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. While there, her interests included the ways in which drinking to reduce negative emotions increase risk of substance use disorders and the way in which viewing uncomfortable emotions as weakness or undesirable experiences increases their duration and intensity. She subsequently completed an internship in serious mental illness, where her interest in bipolar disorder began, and a postdoctoral fellowship in DBT with Marsha Linehan, where her love of DBT was born.
Jenny’s current clinical expertise is in major depression, bipolar disorder, substance use, trauma, self-harm and suicide, and eating disorders in teens and adults. She also has significant experience in obsessive-compulsive disorder and social anxiety disorders. She works best with adults and teens over the age of 15 and has an interest in helping parents of highly emotional teenagers to better understand and help their children. Jenny brings empirically-validated treatment approaches (with a focus on DBT, CBT, MBCT, and FBT) to all of these foci, along with a nonjudgmental and validating attention to detail. She is currently striving to gain expertise in applying these treatments within neurodivergent populations.
Outside of work, Jenny enjoys electronic dance music (trance, house, deep house, techno, and dubstep), liquid dancing, and baton/staff spinning. She also loves cuddling her labradoodle, Clancy, and spending time with her partner, Greg, when he’s not busy being Clancy’s preferred human. She also holds a strong commitment to physical fitness and mindfulness to keep herself balanced.
