Joleen has worked and volunteered in social services for the past 12 years in a variety of settings, including domestic and sexual violence crisis lines, an alcohol and drug treatment center, and providing home-based services for people with physical and developmental disabilities. Since obtaining her Masters in Social Work from Portland State University, she has been providing individual and family therapy in a community mental health setting and doing on-call work at a local emergency department as a child abuse specialist. She believes strongly in the values of empowerment, social justice, and self-determination. She is currently on the substance use team and works as Group Program Manager at PDBTI.
